  I don't understand why someone would want to go back once they realize it isn't the truth just so their friends and family will acknowledge them but some people take a long time before they can break free. But what kind of friends are these won't even allow you to have your own thoughts and beliefs? Open your mouth once and say something they don't like and the friendship is over again. Rather childish isn't it? One thing for sure you won't be alone the Kingdom Halls are full of people playing this game you just won't know who they are because they are living in fear of being found out. Suffering through all the boring talks five meeting a weak is one thing but how will you be able to go out in service and try to trick others into the same lifestyle? Be prepared for a lot more depression if you go back.

  On the other hand, if it really is Jehovah you're there for, then the appreciation for His ways and principles will allow you to bring out the best in yourself and others around. The key is personal study, your relationship with Jehovah. Every day. If you can keep to that, you'll still get the opposition, but you'll have Jehovah on your side. And nothing can beat that. It's a matter of focusing on Jehovah's Kingdom and His will; the rest pales incomparison.

  does any of this sound a little familiar?

  from childhood the irish have been taught that every religion in the world is opposed to their religion, that theirs is the only one having divine right to exist, that all other religions are merely tolerated and that they continue through the benevolent sufferance of the catholic clergy.

  they are taught that bible knowledge is not necessary for christians, only a strict adherence to and belief in the church and its religious leaders is all-important.

  spoke with another friend who was df'd. he said he just listens to 90% of it but the rest he just doesnt pay attention to.

  Not everything said at a meeting is fact, so a person does have to separate the wheat from the chaff. It's a little like what we have to do here, just not such a controversial setting.

  How do you do this? why would you do this? Why would any one want to be a part of this cult is beyond me!!!

  It's a matter of what appeals to a person's heart. The Apostle Paul wasn't bothered about words, even ones like cult. Yes, it's a strange 4-letter word that sound almost vulgar, but it's just a word, after all.

  Salvation is the key. Jehovah's Word sets the terms. It's His guidance we're looking for, even though we're hearing the words of imperfect reflections.

  What do you think is behind the watchtower change in 2008 ?

  i think it's an atempt to catch faders or atleast make active dubs feel special.

  it also could be a cost cutting measure to though.

  getting rid of the km's and even up awakes and watchtowers would save some trees.

  Whenever the work has gone under ban the witnesses adopted such tactics, restricting the flow of information, limiting copies of their literature and restricting who can attend the meetings. We are now seeing the first two being implemented and the last point was hinted at in an previous post.

  They have always believed that the work would come to a halt, that there would come a time when the general public would be cut off from this so called "spirtual food"

  Regardless of whether or not their beliefs in this area are correct, they believe them to be so and are obviously now laying plans for such an eventuality. You just can't stop a work like theirs on a dime. It has to be done in stages.

  I firmly believe that they days of their preaching will soon be over because they will end it, not because the organization implodes or dies out.

  Right. In fact, there have to be survivors into the New System [Rev. 7], but we've long heard that the preaching work would stop when the signal would be given for it. I wonder what is expected to get into when the preaching is stopped. I guess there will have to be an announcement as to what the change(s) will be.

  Actually for the last several years, there is a Worldwide Kingdom Hall Building Fund for areas that can't afford it.

  I think the biggest shift is toward building more and more Kingdom Halls in the areas where there needed. Any cost savings in other areas certainly find productive use in developing lands.

  does anybody know how long it takes for one to get re-instated if you are not that well liked by the body of elders?

  i was disfellowshiped for immorality almost 2 years ago.

  with my job and attending college to keep in step with my field of work, i have only been attending the sunday talk & wt meeting every week.

  Jesus himself left what could have been a lucrative carpentry business, Peter a lucrative fishing business, Paul a lucrative law practice. All 3 kept integrity throughout life, Peter even having a wife! All 3 passed the courage test hands down, even if Peter and Paul were imperfect like the rest of us. Hebrews 11 shows many other examples of what true faith can accomplish. And Luke 18 provides a contrast in viewpoints that is very instructive to us all.

  First, you need to apply for re-instatement to the congregation where you were disfellowshipped. It's not about being well-liked by them, but meeting the qualifications that were set out, which always includes full disclosure of further serious wrongdoing. You mention only attending 2 meetings of the 5 per week, citing attending college to keep in step with my field of work. That shows a double heart, which is the underlying problem I have as well. One who loves the world — you mention that you love to go out dancing on the weekends at worldly dance halls, spend time with your hobby, and study for my Mcse and Cisco training courses — is making themselves an enemy of Jehovah. He is, after all, a Jealous God, exacting exclusive devotion, which requires self-sacrifice and seeking first-and-always the Kingdom. It certainly is worth the effort. It is not wasting your time to try to get back in-line with Jehovah's requirements. After all, He is the one holding out the real promise of everlasting life. Once you're a friend of Jehovah, the rest falls into place. Either the fear/respect of Jehovah is paramount, or the fear/respect of the world. If we try to choose both, we're choosing the world.
